These fasts are always instructive. I gave up caffeine for Lent a few years and oh did the Monday after Easter feel like, idk, a resurrection. Which told me a lot 🤣

Great post, Chris!! Another fun way to improve your Spanish is by immersing yourself - and fortunately Baja California is a short drive (or trolley ride!) away! ¡vamos!

Playing catch-up and happy I got to this one! You pointing out your caffeine intake starting as a college freshman is making me reflect on when I started using caffeine heavily. I started drinking coffee back then, but it really wasn’t until the pandemic hit that I developed a heavy and frequent consumption of it. It’s making me think more about the dopamine relationship.

Before that, I was always exhausted at work since I had to mostly avoid drinking it before the work day; it caused me too much anxiety. Similar struggle here. So I have to try and avoid coffee before things where I notice my anxiety likes to rage (like on Zoom calls). I’m mostly trying to stick with tea for those occasions — I like maté for a more gentle boost without the anxiety. Gloomy weather and no coffee and trying to be focused is so tough though.

Thank you for sharing how your experiment went, Chris! It’s super helpful to hear about other people’s experiences with this.
