Mindful Mondays #28: Okayness Edition
A hack for reducing your screen time, the magic of accepting yourself, and a random podcast recommendation
Good morning, and welcome to Mindful Mondays. The weather is starting to warm up here in San Diego, and we’ve been enjoying some beautiful spring days. Meanwhile, I’ve been hard at work both in my private practice and on my new series of essays.
This week, I published a piece about the one thing that’s helped me keep my daily phone time down to an hour and twenty minutes (or less): deleting all social media apps from my phone. If you missed it on Wednesday, you can check it out here:

How I Attained Persistent Self-Love, Or, I Demand Deep Okayness for Everyone: In this wild, vulnerable, useful essay, writer
documents how he went from chronic self-negation to a deep sense of okayness using various therapeutic and meditative tools, including IFS therapy and psychedelics. This is a good read for anyone who’s struggled with self-hatred or self-sabotage and feels ready to shake things up.Podcast of the Week
The Tim Ferriss Show #670: The Random Show with Kevin Rose. I didn’t dig up anything directly mindfulness-related in my podcast listening this week, but I want to share something with you that’s brought me a lot of joy over the last 10+ years: The Random Show. This isn’t a separate podcast, it’s a reoccurring series of episodes where Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose (creator of Digg and several other apps) have a drink together and chat about stuff they’ve been into lately. Hilarity often ensues. A few of my highlights from this episode: Kevin’s visit with the head of the Sanbo Kyodan Zen lineage, Japanese death poems, Nintendo being founded in the 19th century(!), Balaji Srinivasan’s $1M Bitcoin bet, and the immanent reality of AI assistants like the ones in the movie Her.
